Last week I at last plucked up the courage to move from blogger to a wordpress blog with my own domain name.
Being my usual self, I went in head first without much thought to the process.
I downloaded wordpress onto my computer and extracted the zip file - the easy part. I have been thinking of turning my website into a blog, but decided to take my time moving articles. More importantly my website so far has been earning more affiliate income than my blog.
After the download, I set up a database in mysql and proceeded to upload the wordpress files to a sub-directory via ftp.
All went well until I looked for the blog on my website. Nothing.
I am not sure if it was the heat wave that enwrapped Cape Town over the weekend or not, but suddenly I was feeling HOT!
After one or two error messages - including "Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? (0)", I figured out that I needed my new webhost to enable ssl or tell me how to - as I have no idea.
Instead of struggling too much longer, I export my blogger blog into a free wordpress blog and imported it into the new wordpress blog.
A few more hours of playing around with templates and CSS styles and my blog us is up running!
3 days later!
